What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about a Green New Deal for NC, creating union jobs in clean energy. Universal healthcare so no one goes bankrupt. Getting big money out of politics with public financing and ranked-choice voting. Reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans: H.R. 40, direct payments, student debt relief, and investment in Black communities to close the racial wealth gap. A $25 living wage, union rights, and ending voter suppression. Climate action that bans new fossil fuel projects and holds polluters accountable.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Necessary, yes. Desirable, sometimes. I taught middle school for 25 years. Every day was a negotiation. But there's a difference between compromise and surrender, and I've watched too many politicians call surrender bipartisanship. I'll compromise on how we get universal healthcare. I won't compromise on whether people deserve it. I'll compromise on a road funding formula. I won't compromise on a person's right to vote. You have to know where the line is before you walk into the room. Most of them don't.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

People and Progress I am the only candidate who refuses all corporate money, so I am accountable only to you. I fight for universal healthcare, a living wage, affordable housing, and reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans. Both major parties have failed working families. The Green Party's ecosocialist values align with my lifelong commitment to people, planet, and progress. • Planet I support a Green New Deal that creates good union jobs in clean energy and holds corporate polluters accountable, from the mountains to the coast.

Peace

Diplomacy over endless war. Reduce the bloated military budget and reinvest at home: in our schools, our hospitals, and our communities.

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Climate. That's the one that doesn't wait for us to get our act together. Storms get worse, insurance disappears, and the people with the least get hit first. Right behind that is money in politics. You can't fix anything else if the people writing the rules are the people buying them. And tied to both is trust. Folks don't believe the government works for them anymore, and honestly, they have good reason. You can't run a country on that.
