Tariffs on Canada

Here in Michigan, we know that Canada is not our enemy. We need to end this tariff war — now.

Position history

Statewide pause on new data centers

  1. Mar 2026 (Campaign remarks; said localities should decide)
We have to make Michigan competitive for new AI-supported jobs and investments that grow our state, while setting a responsible framework for safety and data privacy. We need to make sure data centers pay for all their own power usage so that Michiganders aren't footing the bill in higher rates.
  2. Aug 20, 2026 (Campaign statement)
That is why I am calling for a one-year moratorium on new data centers until we establish a fair, transparent approval process that puts local communities first.

Tariffs on Canadian goods

  1. Aug 29, 2026 (Campaign statement on the tariffs with Canada)
President Trump is right to put America First - and tariffs are necessary, but are not a one-size-fits-all solution.
  2. Oct 7, 2026 (Campaign ad)
Here in Michigan, we know that Canada is not our enemy. We need to end this tariff war — now.

Iran war: whether it should have an end date

  1. Mar 2026 (Joe Pags Show podcast)
People say, well, 'what date is it going to end?' It shouldn't be a date. It should be conditional.
  2. Jul 31, 2026 (CBS Detroit TV interview)
I don't mind giving the president authority to continue. You can't stop in mid-negotiation. I think that would not be good for America. But I want him to wrap it up.
  3. Sep 21, 2026 (Campaign ad filmed in a grocery store)
On the campaign website: “I followed in my family’s footsteps by serving in the Army.” (Campaign website)
  4. Oct 6, 2026 (Fox News "The Story," asked which of his statements on the war is right)
My argument is to start wrapping it up. We can't be there without an end date or an end to the regime.

Immigration enforcement

  1. Oct 21, 2026 (final Michigan U.S. Senate debate)
We should continue to do that. Find those folks who are committing crimes and get them the heck out of the country
