What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity, judgment, humility, and accountability are the most important characteristics in an elected official. In my own service, that has meant making difficult charging decisions based on facts and law, leading Colorado’s largest judicial district prosecutor’s office, working with law enforcement and community partners, and serving as president of the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council alongside elected prosecutors from across the political spectrum. Leadership also means building teams that deliver results, listening to people who disagree with you, and being accountable when decisions are difficult or unpopular. An elected official should remember that the office belongs to the people, not the person holding it, and should serve every constituent fairly and without partisan favor.
